About Me
IRIS M. BRUMER, Professional Certified Life Coach
In the words of Khalil Gibran, "out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars." From my own experience of hardships and challenges, I have learned the importance of finding the courage to face what is in front of me and to simultaneously carry the pain of the past alongside the intimate and magical moments that I experience in connection with others.
I believe that a person's sense of purpose is often manifested best through the connection to others. Believing in one's self in the deepest way possible with self-acceptance, allows one to give without condition or expectation of receiving something back. Being deeply rooted in your own culture with compassion and openness towards other cultures, presents a vibrant, fruitful and diverse society. My aspiration is to meet people where there are coming from in terms of their life experiences.
Your life journey is unpredictable in many ways, as mine certainly has been. Born abroad, I experienced being an outsider in America, learning to adapt and evolve, while working to stay true to the essence of myself. Having been happily married, yet suddenly becoming widowed in middle age and raising my two boys as a single parent challenged me to the core. Yet, I found inner strength I never knew I had. When I encountered this deep loss, unexpected trauma and tragedy, I had the opportunity to learn how to carry the pain, to grow from the loss, and to recognize the resilience within myself. Profound friendships, family, and connection to community rooted my sense of self and helped me find the strength to not only heal myself, but to discover the passion and motivation to assist others in their life journeys.
My motto that I strongly believe in is that things don't happen to me; rather things happen; and I choose to be there to fully participate. Humor has been one tool that has helped me navigate through life.
